Just over two months have passed since GPT-4 was unleashed, and already there's a buzz about GPT-5. GPT-4's impressive abilities have been proven through various evaluations. With additions like ChatGPT plugins and custom instructions, it's only grown stronger. Now, the anticipation is building for GPT-5, the possibility of Artificial General Intelligence (AGI), and much more.

GPT-5 Release Date

Though GPT-4's launch was recent in March 2023, speculation about GPT-5 was quick to follow. There are mixed messages about its release date, with CEO Siqi Chen hinting at December 2023, and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman firmly denying it.

The industry is now eyeing GPT-4.5, a potential bridge between the two versions, expected in October 2023. This may include multimodal capability, allowing it to analyse both images and texts.

While GPT-4 has shown power, OpenAI's focus is on efficiency and infrastructure. Given all these factors, 2024 seems to be a more likely release date for GPT-5, although there are rumours about a Q4 2023 limited release.

While GPT-4 is efficient, it's also costly. A comparison with the new Claude 2 by Anthropic AI highlights the price difference. GPT-5 is expected to provide an attractive balance between cost and functionality.
